ARGUMENTO: Father and son meet again after a 30 year separation. The father is now the president of a large American chemical company, the son has worked as a herdsmen for the past 20 years...
By telling the story of a man who is wrongly labelled a Rightist, but well received by the herdsmen, this film criticizes the political excesses of the radical CCP and show how, despite the injustices suffered, the man’s love for his country remains uncompromised. This 1982 Chinese film doesn't hide its propagandistic purposes, yet the fluid classicism of director Xie Jin turns it into a pleasurable, beautifully proportioned melodrama—an astonishing survival of the American studio style of the 50s (in color and widescreen, of course), presented with perfect conviction and assurance.
Una de las mejores y más olvidadas películas de Xie Jin, en la misma línea de su obra maestra "La leyenda de la montaña Tianyun". Sólo por el flashback del romance y la boda ya merecería estar en todas las antologías.
