GÉNERO: Drama
ARGUMENTO: 1978.

Algunas capturas:China's filmmaking master -- Xie Jin
Throughout his career as a filmmaker, Xie Jin was known for his patriotism and intellectual power. He was regarded a legend in Chinese film. Concern for the human condition was a central theme in his works. His career as a filmmaker can be divided into three phases.
The first phase falls between the 1950s to the late 1970s. Among his early works are No. 5 of the Women's Basketball Team, the Red Detachment of Women, and the Sisters of Stage. Among them, No.5 of the Women's Basketball Team is China's first color feature movie on the subject of sports. It follows the careers and romances of Lin Jie and Lin Xiaojie, who are mother and daughter, reflecting the changes in China's sports sector after the liberation in 1949. The movie is marked by an exceedingly beautiful imagery and precise, effective film language. In making the movie, Xie Jin put the focus on portraying the traditional virtues of Chinese women and their relentless struggle for equality.
Throughout his life, Xie Jin refrained from making surrealist movies. He insisted on his responsibility to the motherland and his audiences, considering movies as an epitome of the times.
The second phase starts in the late 1970s. In 1980, the movie "Legend of Tianyun Mountain" marked a departure in Xie Jin's filmmaking approach. Reflections on events in the previous decade became Xie's top concern. Among his major works in the period are Horse Herder, Wreath Under the Towering Mountains, Furong Town, and Qiu Jin the Revolutionary. Furong Town won numerous awards both at home and abroad.
Preoccupied with the interaction between humanity and history, Xie Jin turned his lens to the lives of intellectuals in China. He did a thorough analysis of the fate of intellectuals. In the trilogy of Legend of Tianyun Mountain, Horse Herder, and Furong Town, Xie Jin explored the underlying reasons of the survival and development of the Chinese nation.
Xie Jin was born into a family of scholars in the town of Shangyu in East China. In 1939, he joined the theater circles' resistance efforts against the Japanese Aggression. Since then, his life has been closely linked to the fate of China. His works witnessed the developments of Chinese society through the decades. His movies are considered a presentation of the conscience of China's intellectuals.
In 1989, the movie "Last Nobles" marked another phase in Xie Jin's filmmaking career. Different from all his previous works, the production puts the emphasis on the psychological and spiritual loneliness of its main characters. It was considered an exercise in existentialism.
Xie Jin has created a set of aesthetic values and principles that influenced both his own filmmaking and the Chinese cinema. He is definitely a monumental figure in the 100 years of China's film history. It is impossible to underestimate his value in terms of artistic achievement. It was Xie Jin who has formulated a distinctly Chinese film vocabulary in a time dominated by monotony, ambiguity and chaos.
During his career of more than 60 years, Xie Jin made over 30 movies. Even his last years, he had been active in artistic creation. A couple of months prior to his death, he was engaged as the artistic consultant of the stage drama "Join Me Watching TV".
