This documentary is a portrait of Proust composed of recollections by those who knew him:
François Mauriac: "...l'oeuvre de Proust a quelque chose de monstrueux..."
Jean Cocteau: "... on s'est envoyait poèmes-enveloppes..."
Céleste Arbalet: raconte les dernières minutes de la vie de Proust.
(It's interesting to compare this testimony with that in another film shot five years later (see Proust, l'art et la douleur). Here it is much longer, but the words she uses in the other film are nearly identical. One could think that she has learned the words by heart, but it is clear that the feelings she relives while telling it are not feigned. Rather, it's as if she has turned her memory into a text and reading it (reciting it) makes her memories resurge each time. (I haven't read her book to be able to make a textual comparison).
