ARGUMENTO: Fendrik is a tramp of the sea - living in his boat, begging, poaching, stealing etc. He is an unscrupulous person, even among the tramps he is considered a bit too wild. A young girl, Josefa, escapes from her uncle and runs into Fendrik who takes her on board, forcing her to follow him. He humiliates her in different ways. A young fisherman, Oscar, who is in love with Josefa, follows them in his boat, trying to save her...
The arrival of some kind of “free spirit” — usually a dark, handsome stranger — that upsets rigid local customs is a frequent theme in Norwegian film; adapting Gabriel Scott’s novel, Tancred Ibsen created one of this classic plot’s most moving renditions. Josefa lives with her uncle while waiting for her fiancé Oskar to return from the sea. Fearing her uncle’s intentions, she runs away and seeks shelter in the boat of Fendrik, a “sea gypsy” who wanders the coast. But Fendrik soon develops his own lust for her, as he attempts to draft her into his shady lifestyle. Ibsen had clearly mastered all the conventions of Hollywood-style melodrama, with stark delineations of good and evil and progress towards a final resolution, and yet while Fendrik clearly falls into the “evil” column, there’s a sense that Josefa’s time with him introduces her to a sensuality and freedom that her eventual life with the upstanding Oskar most probably won’t provide.
The grandson of two of Norway’s most famous nineteenth-century writers, Henrik Ibsen and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Tancred Ibsen holds a central place in the history of Norwegian cinema. Working in genres as diverse as musicals, documentaries, screwball comedies, historical adventures, psychological crime thrillers, and literary adaptations, he made twenty-three feature films between 1931 and 1963. His best-known films include the first Norwegian sound film, Den store barnedåpen [The Great Baptism] (1931), as well as two classic features starring Alfred Maurstad: Fant [Tramp] (1937) and Gjest Baardsen (1939). These two latter films are at the centre of the Tancred Ibsen oeuvre and are considered the key works from Norwegian cinema’s very briefgullalder [golden age] which lasted from 1937 until the German Occupation began in 1940. In his autobiography, Ibsen writes about the location shooting in Fant as being a matter of expediency, because no back-projection nor other studio tricks were available. This gives the film an 'authentic' feel which it might not have had, had studio facilities been more readily available.
Recordar que de este cineasta de apellido ilustre circula una VOSE, To mistenkelige personer (1950), gracias a hammett

Algunas capturas:PREACHER escribió:Fant (Tancred Ibsen, 1937).
