Another very entertaining picture was "The Sea Lion" (1921),
produced by and starring veteran character actor Hobart Bosworth.
Although film buffs will recognize its derivative plot as part "The
Sea Wolf," part "Moby Dick," part "20,000 Leagues Under the
Sea," and part "West of Zanzibar," among others, it adds a few
new twists and interweaves the various threads well. The smooth
directing by Rowland V. Lee and good acting by Bosworth as a bitter and
brutal sea captain, Emory Johnson as a rich boy trying to make a man of
himself, and a young Bessie Love as a girl they find on a deserted
island, raise it above just another formula sea adventure movie.
