Un director no muy valorado por la crítica salvo honrosas excepciones (el excelente libro que se publicó en un festival de San Sebastián, Tavernier y Coursadon en sus 50 años de cine americano); a la vez personal (incluso con los temas más diversos) y ecléctico, manejó con éxito casi todos los géneros.
