Georg Friedrich Händel: Occasional Oratorio HWV 62
Georg Friedrich Händel nació en Halle, Brandeburgo (Prusia) en 1685. A los 17 años le nombraron organista de la catedral de Halle y a los 22 años compuso su primer oratorio. Su música adquirió tal repercusión en Inglaterra que en 1712 decidió establecerse allí. La reina Ana, tras escuchar el Utrecht el Te Deum and Jubilate, que Händel compuso para ella, decidió asignarle un sueldo de 200 libras anuales.
Nacionalizado inglés, Händel no saldría ya de Inglaterra, muriendo en Londres en 1759.
Su legado musical, síntesis de los estilos alemán, italiano, francés e inglés de la primera mitad del siglo XVIII, incluye obras en prácticamente todos los géneros de su época, donde 43 óperas, 26 oratorios (entre ellos El Mesías) y un legado coral son lo más sobresaliente e importante de su producción musical. Occasional Oratorio HWV 62
En 1748, Händel terminó de componer esta pieza que celebraba la victoria de los Habsburgo sobre el príncipe Charles Edward Stuart, obra que le empeñó dos años. Es de los oratorios llamados, pues, "militares" y consta de tres partes o bloques cuya distribución es la siguiente:
