It might be stretching it a bit to call BUNCO SQUAD a Film Noir. There is not strong sense of fatalism here, but the movie uses a few elements found in Noir: plot points involving crime and deception, and dark visuals. It's really just a very enjoyable B movie that revolves around a compelling theme: phony mediums. Don't expect another NIGHTMARE ALLEY or AMAZING MR. X and you should find this movie a pretty fun ride. At 67 minutes, it surely does not outstay its welcome.
Plot Synopsis by Hal Erickson:
RKO's Bunco Squad stars Robert Sterling as Sgt. Steve Johnson, a big-city detective dedicated to tracking down con artists. His current target is a gang of slicksters who are running a successful seance racket. Wealthy Jessica Royce (Elizabeth Risdon) is on the verge of bequeathing her fortune to the crooks, in exchange for communications from her deceased son.
Told in semi-documentary style, this film deals with a little-known section of the Los Angeles Police Department which is assigned solely to checking on the activities of fortune tellers, swamis, palmists, and other occult societies, missing only Sciencetology. The primary story has L.A. police detectives Steve Johnson and 'Mack' McManus tracking down a wave of suicides they think have been influenced by a swindler-murderer Anthony Wells. The latter runs a pretentious house staffed with occultists across the board, and is trying to embezzle from Jessica Royle, a wealthy widow whose son was killed in action in World War II. Johnson uses his fiancée/actress, Grace Bradshaw, as an undercover operative to get inside information.

Tiene buena pinta. ¡Muchas gracias! :good: :good:
