Sinopsis: Fausto desesperado por no poder encontrar solución a la plaga que azota a sus semejantes opta por pactar con el diablo para liberarlos.

Comentario: Película con presupuesto descomunal que supuso la despedida alemana de Murnau. Con un excelente trabajo de efectos especiales y detalles cuidados al máximo, en Fausto la cámara cobra vida, sobrevuela paisajes y sigue a los personajes allá por donde éstos van.

Documental los 5 Faustos:
Muy interesante documental que habla sobre los distintos negativos de la película. En superproducciones como esta, era habitual rodar con varias cámaras a la vez y obtener varios negativos que servían para proveer copias al mercado internacional, así como rodar determinadas escenas de otra manera para que se adaptaran a la moral o entendimiento de la nación de destino.

As far I know, spanish Divisa Red edition of the same material was authored at 19.2 fps giving of course a 4% of diference on the running time...(Beaver`s review wrongly speaks of "Pal speedup" Riendo ) .... So the decimation wasn`t hard (I`ve encountered material with ridiculous patterns of 24 dupes out of 137 frames=22.75fps, that`s ugly) BUT...randomly. and in some of the more damaged parts, you`ll find inconsistences on the pattern i.e. with 3/4 or 5 dupes together, always at the end of the begining of a plane (never in the middle)...I don`t see this as a DVD authoring problem of the source but as a restoration choice to get closer of the original number of frames and duration of the damaged fragment. Short, those parts cannot be decimated, they`re as in the DVD and mostly in the more damaged parts of the material. Some examples... 1) when the fog goes out and we see Faust for second time : missing frames of the transition (4 dupes)=violent aparition of alchemist Faust. 2) when the devil spreads the Plage over the town you can spot a repetition of the frames the second time (3 dupes)= small freezing of the plague Riendo 3) when the public looks over the dead face over the clown (3 dupes) hard to spot if I don`t tell you Guiño I know of two more in other parts of the movie but you can play the game too Sonrisa Those anomalies are in the DVD, probably a restoration choice and not a decimation problem.

La había pinchado, pero después me di cuenta de que es el DVD de Divisa, que lo tengo disponible en la Biblioteca. He estado mirando y no sé si en ese DVD viene el documental que posteas, si no viene me lo bajaré por aquí...

Es la misma según leo, con versión doméstica se refieren a la que se distribuyó en Alemania que es ésta, en el documental los 5 faustos que hay en el primer post se pueden ver las diferencias entre negativos y la gran diferencia que hay entre el negativo alemán o el que se exportaba a los EEUU y el de exportación que distribuían por el resto de lugares. Muy recomendable ese documental para entender lo de los varios negativos de la época, me vienen también a la cabeza documentales similares en Der Letzte Mann y Tartüff.

Edito que me había dejado lo de los extras: # Faust: The Different Versions - a 28-minute video comparison of the domestic and the export prints tiene pinta de ser el documental los 5 Faustos.

La banda sonora es distinta, la de la presente versión está compuesta por Art Zoyd, en ningún caso una o otras son las bandas sonoras originales.

El resto de extras (y esa primera cadena de audio incluso, las secundarias por supuesto) sí serían interesantes, si puedo hacer sitio y conecto el azureus me la descargo para completar esta versión.

Muy recomendable ese documental para entender lo de los varios negativos de la época, me vienen también a la cabeza documentales similares en Der Letzte Mann y Tartüff.
